Welcome to Sobonana Camping!

We are situated in Manzamnyama Village at the beautiful Wild Coast. We invite you to come and chill out in an original Xhosa community. Experience life in the transkei-style, take in the wonderful beaches and scenery, and get as far away from the city as you possibly can!

Camping

We have a flattened area next that can easily accommodate 7 - 10 tents. There's a big open fireplace in the middle. Basically camping is available anywhere in the vicinity of the lodge - just find yourself a spot you like, and pitch up your tent or park your car! As the campsite is on top of a hilltop, with a stunning view onto the sea, it can sometimes get quite windy, so make sure you have enough strings to fasten your tent properly.

Facilities

Next to the campsite is a toilet that works on a compost system. The walls and the roof are all made of thatching, and the toilet is flushed with a bucket of water. There's a tap next to the toilet to fill the bucket. As long as guests are not expecting modern toilets in lavish bathrooms with hot running water and ornate bath tubs, they do not complain! This is the great outdoors after all, and not some luxurious newcastle hotel. Bring whatever extras you feel you might need, for only the basics are provided.

The shower also features thached walls. It is fed by the dam up at the lodge, and the water originally comes from a nearby spring in the field. To get hot water, you either use the solar water heating system (works well on sunny days), or the water boiler where you make a fire underneath to heat up your shower water (for cold and clowdy days).

If it gets too windy on the hill, come and chill out in the boma area - a nice space enclosed by a thached fence, a grass bench, lots of banana trees and a great fire ball!

The kitchen/eating area is still under construction and will be completed soon.

Rates and Booking

Camping is R50 per person per night. The number of tents or cars doesn't matter. Childer under 7 years don't pay.
